CARICOM and Cuba Foreign Ministers meet in St. Vincent

GREATER GEORGETOWN, Guyana – The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Cuba will review an agreement on Tuesday, May 29 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines for Scientific and Technical Collaboration in the Health Sector.

The agreement will enable CARICOM and Cuba to combine forces to seek solutions to the complex problems facing the Region in the area of health.

The review will be done during the Second Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of CARICOM and Cuba in St. Vincent and the Grenadines under the co-chairmanship of the Hon. Elvin Nimrod, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Grenada and outgoing Chairman of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) of CARICOM, and the Hon. Felipe Perez Roque, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cuba.

During their one-day meeting, the two sides will discuss the state of their current relations particularly co-operation in training of human resources, health and energy as well as issues of multilateral and regional importance including the Non-aligned Movement and challenges to the region such as drug trafficking, terrorism, security, the environment and climate change.

The Hon. Sir Louis Straker, Minister of Foreign Affairs of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, will deliver the keynote address at the opening ceremony which will also be addressed by Mr Roque and His Excellency Edwin Carrington, Secretary-General of CARICOM.
