FT. LAUDERDALE – Broward Black Elected Officials and the local community will gather at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa on Saturday February 4th 2006 to celebrate its First Annual Fundraising Gala spotlighting leadership in Broward County.
The theme “A Spotlight on Leadership,” will honor elected officials and community leaders such as Congressman Alcee L. Hastings, Broward County Sheriff Ken Jenne, Commissioner E. Pat Larkins. Peter Webley, publisher of the oldest Caribbean Newspaper in South Florida, Dr. Rosalind Osgood and Vern Dulin.
Congressman Hastings, in 1992, became the first African American from Florida since the Civil War period to be elected to Congress. Hastings has brought back millions of dollars of funding back to his community demonstrating the value and feasibility to invest in community development.
This extravagant fundraiser will include an evening of networking, entertainment, and acknowledgments highlighting those who have demonstrated true leadership beyond the call of duty within the Broward County community.
The Broward Black Elected Officials want to foster continuing education in Broward County. Proceeds from the event will provide funding for students pursuing advanced educational opportunities in public service at the graduate and post graduate levels. Funds will also go towards the business programs at Florida Memorial University, Florida A&M University, and Bethune-Cookman College.
