ST.LUCIA – Saint Lucians are among 198 Eastern Caribbean students pursuing studies in different specialties in Mexico.
This was revealed by His Excellency Mr. Sergio Saavedra Ambassador of Mexico to Saint Lucia , who said in the last two years several cooperation projects between the Caribbean and his country have been implemented but, Mexico hopes to expand the fields of cooperation.
He said “ Knowing the great importance given to education by the government of Saint Lucia and the Governments of the OECS, I am glad to highlight that as a result of the special scholarship programmes, there are in Mexico 198 Eastern Caribbean students carrying out studies in different specialities in Mexico.”
Ambassador Saavedra was at the time addressing guests at a reception in observance of the anniversary of Mexico’s independence. He noted that the policy of Mexico towards the Caribbean region was based of mutual knowledge of each other’s cultures and their visions of the world, adding that “We would hope, likewise to expand the fields of cooperation in which Mexico and Saint Lucia can work together with the unique purpose of helping each other to advance toward the development of our countries and the well being of our people”
Among the specially invited guests were Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, Governor General, Hon. Velon John, Minister for Public Service Labour and Cooperatives, Ambassadors for China, Venezuela, United Kingdom and representatives of the diplomatic community, private sector agencies and government officials. Mexico gained its independence in 1810 after many years if fighting colonial forces.
