Caribbean Court Justice to Speak in South Florida at NSU Law Center
DAVIE – The Honorable Mr. Justice Adrian Saunders of the Caribbean Court of Justice will speak at the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center on Friday, November 2nd as part of an event co-sponsored by the Caribbean Law Program of NSU Law Center and the St. Vincent and Grenadines Association of Florida.
The event for invited guests will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception for Mr. Justice Saunders and will continue with a presentation entitled “The Caribbean Court of Justice and the Development of a Caribbean Jurisprudence.” The reception and presentation are closed to the public.
Justice Saunders
Mr. Justice Saunders currently serves as a Justice on the Caribbean Court of Justice, which was inaugurated on April 15, 2005. He has also served as Chief Justice, a Justice, a High Court Judge and a Judge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC). Mr. Justice Saunders was engaged in private practice as barrister and solicitor from 1977 until 1996. From 1985 to 1994, he served contemporaneously as a member of the Bar Council of the Eastern Caribbean Bar Association and as Secretary of the St. Vincent Bar Association.
Mr. Justice Saunders received his Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill) in 1975 and his Legal Education Certificate from Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad & Tobago in 1977. Also in 1977, he was called to the Bar of St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
Mr. Justice Saunders has also served as President of the National Youth Council of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He has represented St. Vincent and the Grenadines in table tennis and was a member of the Executive of the St. Vincent & the Grenadines Table Tennis Association. He also served as chairman of the St. Vincent Save the Children and as president of the St. Vincent Guild of Graduates. In December 2004, Mr. Justice Saunders was appointed by a Caribbean Community (Caricom) Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket to act as judge-advocate for a dispute between the West Indies Cricket Board and the West Indies Players’ Association.
