Caribbean Bar Association annual awards banquet to highlight contributions of Caribbean Nationals

MIAMI – The Caribbean Bar Association South Florida Chapter will highlight the Contribution of Caribbean Nationals at its Annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet.

The Tenth Annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet will be take place on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, beginning with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., and followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $100.00 per person.

According to Pamela Gordon, Caribbean Bar President, “We have partnered with members of the Caricom Consular Corps and tourist boards of several Caribbean islands, to ensure that our guests will not only enjoy true Caribbean heritage and music but also have an opportunity to visit these islands and experience the artwork by participating in the silent auction items, which will be on display during the cocktail reception.”

In keeping with the charitable aim of the Banquet, a portion of the net proceeds from the event will be used to fund scholarships for financially challenged high schools students on their way to college. The CBA will choose the recipients of the scholarship through an essay competition.

“Usually we award scholarships to deserving law students, however, this year we decided to change the focus of the Banquet and recognize outstanding high school students on their way to college. We changed the focus because we believe that high school students need the encouragement and too often their efforts go unrecognized,” explained Pamela Gordon.

The Gala will also honor persons and companies who have made significant contributions to the Caribbean-American community in South Florida.

Dr. Karl Wright, President of Florida Memorial University, will be honored for his contributions and achievement in the education arena, Ocho Rios Miami, Inc will receive the corporate citizenship award in recognition of its contribution in the Caribbean-American community and Winsome “Lady C” Charlton, from High Class Promotions and WAVS Radio Station will be honored for her contributions to media and the creation of the Reggae Soca Music Awards.
