Caribbean-Americans elected to Miramar Commission

MIRAMAR – History has been made in the City of Miramar. Voters in the City re-elected Winston Barnes and elected new comer Yvette Colbourne, both of Caribbean descent. The city is making history by having all 4 Commissioners on the Dias of Caribbean descent.

Winston Barnes defeated Alejandro “Alex” Casas for the second time in a regular city election to win seat 3. Barnes received 3,080 votes. Casas received 1,093. This is Barnes’ fourth time running and third re-election.

Colbourne defeated incumbent Troy Samuels, who was first elected to the commission in 2005, for seat 2. With all 32 precincts reporting, she received 2,663 votes. Samuels received 1,595.

The current Commissioners for the city include Alexandra P. Davis and Wayne M. Messam.
