Caribbean American Community Supports Congresswoman Yvette Clarke in Atlanta, Georgia

ATLANTA – Caribbean American friends and supporters of U.S. Congresswoman Yvette Clarke met with her in the Sandy Springs area of Atlanta, Georgia last Sunday, July 11, 2010.

This informal fund-raiser was held at the home of Jamaican-born Gregory and Elaine Bryan in support of the re-election of Clarke to the U.S. Congress in November 2010. Mrs. Elaine Grant-Bryan was recently appointed Leadership Sandy Springs Alumni Council Member and is a financial leader (columnist) and award-winning mentor recognized
by the Governor of Georgia and the Mayor of Atlanta for her contributions to educational and civic leadership.

Host Gregory Bryan introduced Jamaican-American leader Dr. the Hon. Una Clarke, former New York councilwoman and mother of the Congressional leader who in turn introduced Rep. Clarke (NY).
The Congresswoman’s speech was informative focusing on immigration reform, education, health care, and interests of the Caribbean region while imploring those in attendance to continue their support.

Among the over 100 guests were: Jamaica’s Honorary Consul to Atlanta, Vin Martin, Esq.; Atty. Bernardine Layne, wife of the Barbados Honorary Consul to Atlanta; Atty. Jewel Scott, former DA for Clayton County, Georgia; Dr.
Greg Farngalo and Mrs. Debra Squire-Farngalo, US Post Master of Atlanta; Barry Douglas and Dr. Oley Bye of Supreme Carib Radio; Errol Ritchie, Pres., Atlanta Jamaica Association (AJA); Glen Laman, Pres. Kingston College Old Boys Assn. (KCOBA); Earl and Alicia Adams, KCOBA Treasurer; Dr. Donovan Christie, ANWAN Wellness Center; Dr. Dahlia Pottinger; Dr. Donna Robinson; Patrick and Judith Silvera; Ernie Jones; Joy White; Janice Lawrence; and Dr. Winston Price, a pediatrician and long-time friend of the Clarkes. Dr. Price recently received an award in Washington DC for his work in the relief efforts in earthquake-ravaged Haiti.

Norman Grant entertained guests with steel pan music and Caribbean food was prepared by Carmen Catering Services of Atlanta.
