MDC North Campus President Dr. Malou C. Harrison Receives Cameron Hall Practitioner Award
Miami -Miami Dade College (MDC) North Campus President Dr. Malou C. Harrison was honored by the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC) at the 48th Annual Student Development Commission Conference with the Cameron Hall Practitioner Award. The Cameron Hall Practitioner Award recognizes Florida College System student affairs practitioners that have consistently demonstrated high levels of humanitarianism throughout their careers.
Understanding her role as Campus President, Dr. Harrison takes pride in responding to the needs of more than 50,000 students and the community. She continues to advocate for a variety of programs that support student success both in and outside of the classroom. Dr. Harrison has been instrumental in spearheading initiatives at MDC North, West and the Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center that have increased the enrollment and success of students, particularly students of color and those attending college for the first time. She has also successfully led initiatives and programs that have sustained student persistence and completion and she has strongly advocated on behalf of our immigrant and documented MDC students and their families.
“It was an honor for us to be able to recognize Dr. Malou Harrison,” stated Marjorie McGee, Chairperson of the AFC’s Student Development Commission. “She is an individual that served as a Student Dean for 10 years and observed firsthand the many ways that the Student Development Commission has led the way for student development initiatives to be widely recognized and for student services practitioners to feel empowered. Through recognition and validation, we continue to empower those that do great work in Student Affairs,” added McGee.
The Association of Florida Colleges is the professional association of Florida’s twenty-eight public State Colleges and Colleges (formerly community colleges), the Division of Community Colleges, their Boards, employees, retirees, and associates. The mission of the Association is to actively promote, represent, support, and democratically serve all members and institutions in their endeavors to provide their students and the citizens of Florida the best possible comprehensive State College and College educational system.
Dr. Malou C. Harrison who is Jamaican is honored as a Caribbean-American Achiever for Caribbean-American Heritage Month.
