Campbell, many more Jamaicans set for adidas Track Classic

CARSON, Calif. – Veronica Campbell of Jamaica, the most successful female track-and-field athlete at the 2004 Olympics, leads a roster of 14 Jamaican stars at the adidas Track Classic on May 21. She will be joined at The Home Depot Center by Jamaican headliners Omar Brown, the 2006 Commonwealth Games 200-meter gold medalist; Danny McFarlane, the 400-meter silver medalist at the 2004 Olympics; and Kenia Sinclair, the 2006 World Indoor Championships silver medalist and National Record-holder.

The fast-paced, finals-only event begins at 12:30 p.m. PT on May 21 at The Home Depot Center, on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills.

A triple-medalist in Athens (200-meter and 4×100-meter gold, 100-meter bronze), Campbell won last year’s 100-meter dash at the adidas Track Classic in 10.96 seconds over a top field.

Novlene Williams and Jermaine Gonzales, both 2006 Commonwealth Games 400-meter bronze medalists; Aleen Bailey, a 100-meter finalist in Athens; Vonette Dixon (100m hurdles); and Shereffa Lloyd and Ronetta Smith (400m) are among those also expected.

More than 150 athletes from 19 countries are set to compete at the meet, shaping up as the best international track-and-field event in Southern California since the 1984 Olympics. A total of 44 Olympic or World Championships medalists, including 13 Olympic Gold Medalists and 13 individual World Champions, are expected.
