Broward County Offers New Affordable Housing Home Construction Program to qualified buyers

FT. LAUDERDALE – Broward County has initiated a new program to provide homeownership opportunities for qualified buyers. The Affordable Housing Home Construction Program utilizes county-owned, residential lots in the unincorporated central Broward County neighborhoods of Roosevelt Gardens and Washington Park.

The lots have been transferred to local home builders for the construction of affordable, single-family homes starting at $173,000. Each home features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, concrete block construction with two-car garage, tile roof, hurricane shutters, and a complete appliance package, which includes refrigerator, range, dishwasher, garbage disposal, washer and dryer.

Homes are available for sale to mortgage approved buyers who must meet income qualifying program guidelines. Downpayment assistance is available for the purchase of these homes. Homes are available on a first come, first qualified, first served basis. Each buyer is responsible for the following:

· Choose from a list of lenders and apply for mortgage approval.

· Attend workshop and provide workshop certificate to the lender.

· Upon obtaining mortgage approval, contact a
builder to discuss home availability.

· Sign real estate sales contract and provide a copy to the lender.
