Last year’s Destination Fridays: Jamaica featuring Bob Marley’s birthday was truly a grand slam hit for the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC), with more than 360 people attending and plenty of people begging for its return.

So, by popular request, Jamaica and Bob Marley will be the theme for the first Broward County Library Destination Fridays event of 2016, scheduled for February 5 from 6:30 to 9:30PM. The African-American Research Library and Cultural Center is located at 2650 Sistrunk Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311.

For $10, adults age 21 and over will enjoy an evening of Jamaican effervescence! Just like last year, the library will be humming with rum punch, Jamaican food, lively music and dancing in the lobby!

Photographer entrepreneur David Muir is providing some Jamaica-flavored visual thrills in the library gallery. In the library lobby, guests can enjoy musical entertainment, including singer Kristine-Alicia and sax man Randy Corinthian, along with poetry by Dr. Susan Davis.

Also, Calibe Thompson of Blondie Ras Productions, a Miami-based video production company, will showcase her upcoming Caribbean programs.

Come dressed to jam in your Bob Marley t-shirt and your reggae colors. Dance your way to fitness with the ReggaeFit team and channel your inner Bob Marley for the Lip Sync Smackdown, which was such a crowd pleaser last year.

If you wish to practice in advance with the edited-for-time Bob Marley song clips or would like some more information about the contest, please contact Steve Vinik (954-357-6190 or email [email protected]). The Grand Prize Winner of the Lip Sync Smackdown will receive a $200 gift card.

Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 each or through Eventbrite.

Sponsored by the Friends of the African-American Research Library & Cultural Center, Country Walk Restaurant, The Salad Bowl, Blondie Ras, B&B Interior Systems, Rainbow Variety, ReggaeFit, David Muir, Patterson Property Management, Ocho Rios Foods, Carl’s Seafood, Island Water Sports, Reading Pays More, Hammond’s Bakery and Goldson Spine Rehabilitation Center.
