Broward County Government, Businesses, Educators, Volunteers Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

BROWARD COUNTY – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will forever be remembered for his message of hope and his vision of a “Beloved Community.”

That vision is the impetus behind Broward County’s planned “Serving the Community! Clean Up and Beautification Project” which begins on Saturday, January 15, at 8 a.m. in Collier City, located in Northwest Pompano Beach. In addition, a Martin Luther King, Jr., Social Services Fair will take place Monday, January 17.

“We can carry out Dr. King’s vision of creating a beloved community by working together to help one another and enrich the communities in which we live. Government, businesses, sponsors, educators, volunteer, and more than 200 volunteers coming together in the memory of Dr. King to do just that,” said Broward County Commissioner Dale V.C. Holness.

Commissioner Holness, in partnership with Volunteer Broward, Pompano Beach city officials, local sponsors and volunteers, will begin beautification projects throughout Collier City that include a community trash pick-up, landscaping vacant lots, planting flowers, shrubs and trees, and repairing homes that have had previous code violations.

To complete the Holiday weekend, a Martin Luther King, Jr. Social Services Fair is planned on Monday, January 17, at Blanche Ely High School, 1201 N.W. Sixth Ave. in Pompano Beach, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Community organizations and partners such as 2-1-1 Broward, Minority Builders Association, Children’s Services Council, Workforce One, Hispanic Unity, Broward College, Community School North, Tax Preparations, Sunshine Cleaning Systems and a number of others will be on hand to discuss the services they provide to those who may be in need of assistance.

Contributing sponsors include Southern Waste Management, Delaware North, Moore Walters & Associates and Pinky’s International Café.
