Broward County Community Leaders Invited To A Local Census 2010 Roundtable Discussion

FT. LAUDERDALE – On December 17, 2009, Marc Morial, (President of the National Urban League and Chair of the 2010 Census Advisory Committee), Congressman Lacy Clay, the Rev. Al Sharpton (National Action Network), Melanie Campbell (National Coalition on Black Civic Participation), and other national black leaders met with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Census Bureau to share action plans to help prevent undercounting in the 2010 Census.

In a show of solidarity and commitment to preventing undercounting of blacks and other people of color in Broward County, the Urban League of Broward County and Caribbean-American Cultural Coalition Complete Count Committee will be hosting a local Census 2010 Roundtable on January 14, 2010 at 6:00pm at the Urban League of Broward County Administration Office, 11 NW 36th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale.

Through this roundtable they will share action plans for community outreach and mobilization and offer to partner with the Census Bureau to ensure a full count. The desired outcome of this meeting is to ensure that Broward residents from all parts of the black Diaspora, particularly in hard to count areas, are not overlooked or undercounted in the 2010 Census.

Major Black organizations have united nationwide to assist the Census Bureau to execute this mission. We would like to follow suit. We need your leadership to make this happen on a local level!

Together, we will be able to ensure EVERYONE is counted!

You may either email [email protected] your RSVP or call Andrea Owes, Director of Special Projects at (954) 625-2548 to confirm your attendance on January 14, 2010.
