Black Professionals gather at JM Lexus to honor five local Black achievers

MARGATE – Who’s Who in Black South Florida™ hosted a Recognition Reception on Thursday October 4, 2007. The event was held at JM Lexus on Sample Road in Margate to honor and recognize five leading black achievers in South Florida. Shomari Stone, Emmy-nominated broadcaster of Miami’s CBS 4 was Master of Ceremonies and officiated the event.

The after work reception was well attended by over 150 professionals from across South Florida who enjoyed the opportunity to pay homage to the area’s renowned leaders and network with each other. Many of the attendees voiced enthusiasm for the event such as Neidy Marcelo, Marketing Manager of law firm Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price and Axelrod, LLP who described the reception as “amazing” for its networking opportunities among black professionals. Similar sentiments were echoed by Gary Curry, Vice President of Northern Trust’s private banking division, who said the reception was, “a great event and the networking was immeasurable”. Similar sentiments were echoed by a recent transplant from New York who said the event gave her hope for feeling more at home in South Florida.

Royal Caribbean International was the Presenting Sponsor of The Recognition Reception and Horace Hord, Regional Vice president used the occasion to present a donation to 100 Black men of Greater Fort Lauderdale. The Host Sponsor was JM Lexus. Contributing sponsors included Starbucks, Dewar’s 12, Coca-Cola, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Nova Southeastern University, 100 Black Men of America Greater Ft. Lauderdale, Inc., and Northern Trust Bank.

The parent company, Who’s Who Publishing Company, began in Atlanta, Georgia in 1989 and currently publishes similar annual directories in major markets nationwide. The second edition of Who’s Who In Black South Florida™ is scheduled for an April 2008 publication release.
