Bishop Victor T. Curry Selected To Motivate Graduates At Florida Memorial University’s Fall Commencement Ceremony

MIAMI GARDENS – Renowned Bishop Victor T. Curry, founding pastor of New Birth Baptist Church Cathedral of Faith International, will deliver the keynote address at Florida Memorial University’s Fall Commencement Ceremony this Saturday, December 18, 2010, at 8:30 a.m. South Florida’s only historically black college or university, Florida Memorial will hold the ceremony at the A. Chester Robinson Athletic Center: 15800 NW 42nd Avenue in Miami Gardens, Florida.

“The Florida Memorial University family is excited to celebrate this momentous occasion with the entire community,” said Sandra T. Thompson, Ph.D., interim president. “This event is the first step in what will surely be a bright future for hundreds of our talented graduates.”

Bishop Curry leads a diverse ministry portfolio which has expanded to include the New Birth Broadcasting Corporation and gospel radio station, AM 1490 WMBM, the Vision to Victory Human Services Corporation, New Birth Enterprise, which features a state-of-the-art recording studio, as well as the Omari Chronicles Publishing Company. Bishop Curry also pastors the St. Ruth Missionary Baptist Church in Dania Beach, Florida.

Continually fighting for the under-represented masses of South Florida and in his second term, Bishop Curry serves as president of the Miami-Dade Branch of the NAACP, the nation’s oldest civil rights organization.

Bishop Curry matriculated from Florida Bible College and earned a bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology at the historic Florida Memorial College (now Florida Memorial University). He also earned a Master of Ministry degree at the Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary. Additionally, he was honored by Saint Thomas Christian College with an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree. Bishop Curry has an earned Doctor of Ministry degree from the Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary.

Florida Memorial University is a private, undergraduate and graduate degree-granting institution with a history dating back to 1879. Florida Memorial is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor and master degrees. Its small, family-like campus community inspires a “never give in” determination in its students, while providing the opportunities commonly found at larger institutions.
