Bermuda’s outgoing Premier praised for dedication and hard work
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – As the Premier of Bermuda, Dr. the Hon. Ewart Browne leaves office, St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is praising his hard work, and dedication that as transformed the island in the Atlantic.
In a letter to the Bermuda Premier who is not seeking re-election to the leadership of the ruling Bermuda Progressive Labour Party (BLP) at its annual conference on Thursday, the St. Kitts and Nevis leader told Dr. Browne “it is not often that one is fortunate enough, talented enough, or determined enough to realize the dreams of one’s youth, when those dreams involve the opportunity to lead the land of one’s birth.”
“Through hard work and dedication however, you have managed to transform a bold, youthful and ephemeral hope into a historically documented reality, bringing into being the dream that your parents, Helene and D.A. Brown, so deeply held for you, and delivering to Bermuda’s Progressive Labour Party the historic opportunity to chart the course of Bermuda during these globally perilous times,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
Dr. Douglas told the Bermuda Premier, who like him is a medical ptactitioner, “it was an honour for me to be able to see first-hand, during my recent visit to Bermuda, all that your leadership has meant to Bermuda, a leadership to which teen-oriented programmes, innovative tourism initiatives, urgent care infrastructure, and a host of other outstanding advancements now all bear testimony.”
Prime Minister Douglas noted that throughout the long history of Bermuda, and from amongst the hundreds of thousands who over the centuries have called Bermuda home, only ten elected officials have risen to the position of Premier.

And, as you complete this impressive chapter of your career, I, on behalf of the Government and People of St. Kitts and Nevis, thank you for the spirit of respect and co-operation that defined relations between our respective islands in recent years, and I join all those who are taking the time on this special day to wish you the very best that life has to offer. God speed,” said the St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister.
Dr. Browne is married to Wanda Henton Brown, and has four sons: Kevin, Maurice, Ewart III, and Donovan.
The Annual Delegates Conference of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party (PLP) started Wednesday and ends Thursday with the election of a new political leader who is expected to be sworn in as Bermuda’s 11th Premier.
