Bermuda’s New Era in Tourism

HAMILTON, Bermuda – An informative program on the Platinum Period developments underway in the Bermuda Tourism industry will air tomorrow on Bermuda’s ZBM TV 9, presented by Tucker’s Point Club.

“Platinum Period: Bermuda’s New Era in Tourism” will air Wednesday, August 20th at 8:00pm.

The 60-minute program is hosted by Emmy Award-winning reporter Glenn Jones and is produced by the Bermuda Department of Tourism (BDOT).

BDOT and Tucker’s Point Club have partnered to bring the program to commercial television. “Platinum Period” has previously aired on the government-funded television network CITV.

Tucker’s Point Vice President, Human Resources Miriam Johnston introduces the news-style documentary, encouraging Bermudians to join the Tourism industry – particularly at Tucker’s Point Club where a new hotel will soon open.

Ms Johnston says in her recorded segment: “Tucker’s Point Club has set a new standard for hospitality in Bermuda. We are committed to hiring, training and promoting Bermudians and our record speaks for itself.

“Of the current 150 full time staff hired directly through Tucker’s Point Club, 93% are Bermudian. The hotel and spa will open in April 2009. We have already confirmed a Bermudian as the Hotel Manager and repatriated another Bermudian to the island for the management post of Director of Spa.

“We are seeking motivated individuals to join our dynamic team.”

Earlier this year, Ms Johnston won the prestigious “Minister of Tourism Best of the Best Award” presented by the Visitor Industry Partnership.

Premier Dr. Ewart F. Brown, Minister of Tourism and Transport, said: “Getting Bermudians excited about a new era in Tourism will require a team effort – Government working with our industry partners. This program and last week’s productive Tourism Summit are good examples of the strength and value of our partnership.”

“Platinum Period: Bermuda’s New Era in Tourism” focuses on the recently-opened hotel property at Newstead, comprehensive upgrades at Fairmont Hamilton Princess and the new hotel at Tucker’s Point. Additionally, the program touches on a multitude of projects currently underway that typify Platinum Period objectives.

Delivering a Platinum Period in Bermuda Tourism was outlined in the Government’s 2007 Election Platform called “Patterns of Progress”.
