Back to school health fair to offer free physicals, screenings and more
North Miami, FL – The City of North Miami Parks and Recreation Department will host the Russell Life Skills and Reading Foundation Back to School Health Fair on Saturday, July 30 from 10am-3pm. The event will be held at the Sunkist Grove Community Center, located at 12500 NW 13 Avenue, in North Miami.
Physicians, nurses, optometrists, chiropractors, and other health professionals will be there to provide free physical check ups, immunizations, vision and hearing screenings for those who attend. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and present their immunizations records. Blood pressure and glucose screenings will be available for participating adults. The event promises to be a fun-filled day with music, games, food, and gifts. It is free and open to the public.
Aside from the health screening, the foundation plans to distribute over 500 free school supplies, bags, notebooks and other essentials to children, on a first-come, first-served basis. Foundation founder, Twan Russell, notes, “we have the annual health fair to facilitate access to health care for the many families who cannot afford to get their children immunized and checked up before school starts, and also to promote quality family time.”
Co-sponsors of the Russell Life Skills and Reading Foundation Health Fair include: WellCare, City of North Miami, Wal-Mart, The Miami Herald, Starbucks and Sweet Tomatoes.
