ST. LUCIA – Anse Chastanet is a Caribbean favourite for Europeans!
So said the influential Condé Nast Traveller in the United Kingdom whose readers voted the St. Lucian gem as the number two hotel in the Caribbean and the Americas.
The leading travel magazine gave additional accolades and recognized the romantic resort built and managed by Nick and Karolin Troubetzkoy as number six in the world.
The prestigious publication described Anse Chastanet as one of the best hotels on an island with many high end resorts. Its breathtaking location with 37 rooms blessed with superb views from the vertiginous hillside and another 12 comfortable rooms on the beach make the property stand out from its competitors.
The highly regarded travel magazine, subscribed to by higher end travelers, noted the incomparable twin peaks rising out of an azure sea in full view of Anse Chastanet means “no two rooms are alike, but the best have double-take views of the Pitons; Petit in front, Gros behind.”
According to the magazine, Anse Chastanet’s older, more traditional rooms are attractive, “but there are also tree-houses on stilts overlooking the ocean and one enormous hill-top suite that has been constructed around a tree (guests are obliged to share their shower with the tree-frogs).”
As added attractions for its guests, Anse Chastanet, reported the magazine, sports a well-established scuba-diving school considered one of the best on the island which attracts its own clientele to the hotel, many of whom become repeat guests.
For those seeking a more active stay, there are several miles of mountain-bike trails in nearby Anse Mamin Estate, a former plantation with 18th-century ruins belonging to Anse Chastanet, fronted by the resort’s deserted second beach. Serving the bikers is a specialist rider and Cannondale bicycles of varying shapes and sizes.
Guests who prefer a slower pace can choose from a selection of hikes and guided tours on the resort’s 600-acre estate and in the area. The resort also offers a variety of scuba and sailing packages, taking advantage of the crystal clear and clean Caribbean waters.
There is no chance of feeling confined, asserted the review, which pointed to the menu of dining options. There are several daily menu choices in three locations, from modern Caribbean to East Indian and St. Lucian fusion, and even a dedicated vegetarian menu with produce from Anse Chastanet’s Emerald Estate organic farm.
