As Becky Stockhausen, Executive Director of AMCHAM explains, “Annually on March 8, in recognition of International Women’s Day, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate their achievements.

The American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica is proud to be at the heart of this celebration here in Jamaica, as we seek to reflect on progress made, facilitating change and celebrating acts of courage and determination of ordinary women who have played extraordinary roles.“

“Our guest speaker, Lorna Owens, is undoubtedly a woman of substance whose story of courage and determination will motivate our Jamaican women into accessing the grace and the miracles that surround us daily,” added Ms. Stockhausen.

Jamaican-born and extremely proud of that fact Ms. Owens has transformed herself multi times from Registered Nurse, Midwife, Attorney, to a highly sought after International Speaker and Author. She has spoken in over six countries and throughout the United States, and has been interviewed on NBC, TBN, our own TVJ, and Cayman TV. She is the author of the celebrated inspirational books, Daily Sustenance, and her most recent project Everyday Grace, Everyday Miracle.

Owens credits her amazing successes to her Jamaican upbringing which she says, “has given me the fortitude to strive for greatness and the humility to always be grateful’.

International Women’s Day is the global day connecting all women around the world and inspiring them to achieve their full potential. On this day, women can celebrate the progress that has been made but also contemplate those areas of women’s lives where more can be done. It also celebrates the collective power of women, past, present and future.

International Women’s Day was first celebrated in the early 1900s in the United States, and since then, it has grown into a worldwide celebration. This year, 229 events will take place in 21 countries around the globe.
