Ambassador of Taiwan to Saint Lucia installed

ST. LUCIA – Ambassador Designate of the Republic of China on Taiwan to Saint Lucia H. E. Tom Chou is expected to arrived in Saint Lucia on Saturday, July 21st. Ambassador Chou is the first Ambassador to be posted to Saint Lucia since the resumption of diplomatic relations between the ROC (Taiwan) and Saint Lucia on 30th of April, 2007.

As a distinguished career diplomat, Ambassador Chou had served in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the capacity of Chargé d’Affaires from 1997 to 2001. He was then transferred to take the post of Deputy Director General, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York from 2001 to 2005.

Before he was appointed as Ambassador to Saint Lucia, Mr. Chou had been the Head of Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Congressional Liaison Unit, and most recently the Secretary-General of the Coordination Council of North American Affairs, the counterpart of the American Institute in Taiwan, U.S.A.

Born on 6th May, 1956, Ambassador Chou joined the Foreign Service in 1982 and has earned an MA degree from the Institute of International Affairs, George Washington University, U.S.A.

The Acting Prime Minister and Minister of External Affairs, Honourable Stephenson King, has expressed his delight and welcoming gesture to Ambassador Chou’s appointment by the ROC (Taiwan) Government to Saint Lucia. The Governments of St. Lucia and ROC (Taiwan) share the same view that the arrival of Ambassador Chou will herald another stage of cooperation between the two countries.

His Excellency Tom Chou is expected to present his credentials to Governor General Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy in due course.
