Air Jamaica Extends Lovebird Hospitality To Jamaican Athletes For Penn Relays
MIAMI – Air Jamaica has once again lent its support to Jamaica’s athletes participating in the 115th Penn Relays from April 23 through April 25, 2009 at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field. The Penn Relays is the largest athletics competition in the USA with more than 22,000 high school, university and open athletes participating, drawing more than 100,000 spectators over the three day period.
Jamaican athletes have become a dominant force over the years at the event which was first held in 1895. In recent years, the national carrier Air Jamaica has played a pivotal role in assisting with transporting the Jamaican teams to this top class track and field meet.
This year, Air Jamaica is again operating a larger aircraft between Jamaica and Philadelphia during the Penn Relays to accommodate the athletes and coaches of Team Jamaica Bickle.
“As Jamaica’s national carrier, we are proud to transport our young athletes to Philadelphia to participate in this highly competitive event,” said George deMercado, Air Jamaica’s Senior Director, Sales. “The airline has had a longstanding relationship with the Penn Relays, and looks forward to the continued success of Team Jamaica Bickle.”
Air Jamaica has deepened its support of the Penn Relays this year and will maintain a strong presence inside the event stadium. In addition to the airline’s sponsorship of the annual event, four lucky listeners from WKDU will get an opportunity to witness the event courtesy of Air Jamaica.
The airline also joined forces with the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) to create a special promotion on Philadelphia’s WDAS-FM in support of the Penn Relays which will provide listeners with a chance to win a trip to Jamaica.
