Air Jamaica boosts summer schedule to Grenada

NEW YORK – Air Jamaica has announced more flights to Grenada, the Caribbean island, this summer, increasing its non-stop schedule from four to five flights per week to and from New York’s JFK International Airport, beginning the week of June 25, 2006.

JM 94, which currently operates on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, will have an additional Thursday departure. All flights depart New York’s JFK at 10:30 a.m., arriving in Grenada at 3:10 p.m. On the return leg, JM 95 departs Grenada at 4:00 p.m. and arrives in New York at 8:50 p.m.

Air Jamaica senior executive George deMercado said the New York-Grenada dedicated route continues to perform exceptionally well, due in large measure to the loyalty of Grenadians to a Caribbean carrier and an award-winning in-flight experience.

“The partnership between Grenada and Air Jamaica has been mutually beneficial and we look forward to strengthening our relationship during what we expect will be an exceptionally busy summer period,” said deMercado. He noted that the additional fifth flight, using a leased Boeing 757 aircraft, will operate seasonally between June 25 through September 10, 2006 . All five flights have been loaded in the reservations system and are available for sale, said deMercado.

Director of Tourism – Grenada

Grenada’s new Director of Tourism, Jocelyn Sylvester-Gairy, expressed gratitude to Air Jamaica for its commitment to Grenada and wants to strengthen the destination’s marketing strategy with the regional carrier. “We’ve seen other airlines who have been (around) before Air Jamaica, and they have not made the (marketing) strides that Air Jamaica has (made),” said the director, who also wants to see a resumption of service between Grenada and Jamaica to boost intra-regional travel and connections with other US cities.

“Foreign carriers? Yes, we know that there is a role for them, but our people love Air Jamaica and I think we need to (do more together with Air Jamaica),” said Sylvester-Gairy.

Air Jamaica provides more non-stop flights to Jamaica than any other carrier with more than 270 flights per week from Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark, New York (JFK), Orlando, and Philadelphia in the U.S., Toronto , Canada and from London to Montego Bay and Kingston.
