AFUWI Launches Caribbean Jazz Matazz – Florida Fundraiser

FT. LAUDERDALE – The American Foundation for the University Of The West Indies (AFUWI) under the patronage of Jamaica’s Consul General to Miami, Franz N. Hall, will present Caribbean Jazz Matazz Sunday, June 8, at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Proceeds will provide scholarships to deserving students to attend UWI at their various campuses throughout the Caribbean.

The event will feature Jamaica’s top female Jazz performer, Myrna Hague along with reggae crooner Richie Stephens and guitarist Eugene Grey.  Trinidad and Tobago’s Charmaine Forde, accompanied by George Tandy will make a guest appearance. Caribbean Jazz Matazz will please the audience with its dynamic blend of smooth jazz, rhythmic calypso and off-beat reggae selections performed by these extraordinarily talented entertainers which should not be missed.

“Caribbean Jazz Matazz promises to be a delightful evening of Caribbean music of the highest caliber with proceeds going towards funding scholarships for students enrolled at the UWI,” commented Franz Hall, Jamaica’s Consul General in Miami. “I encourage all music lovers to come and experience Caribbean music at its finest and in so doing provide invaluable support to the sustainability of tertiary education in the Caribbean region.  As an alumnus of that venerable institution, and as part of the effort to expose the varied musical forms of the Caribbean, it is my honor to be patron of this event”.

Patrons who purchase VIP ticket will be feted at a pre-concert reception where they will have an opportunity to meet and greet celebrities, UWI officials as well as network with corporate executives. Guests who buy tickets early will have the added advantage of selecting the best seats in the house and it is anticipated that the event will receive strong support from the UWI Alumni South Florida Chapter as well as fans of the performers.
