“Africa Fest 2008” ready to excite and satisfy South Florida
MIAMI – The words of Dr. Gates, and its ages-old reflection of the sentiments of increasing numbers of people around the world, especially those of African heritage, is the motivation for “AFRICA FEST 2008,” a 7-year old community event, which takes place annually in Miami Dade County.
“Africa is the mother of civilization itself; we have our roots here. And until we know Africa, we can never truly know ourselves.” – Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
“The Board and leadership of Africa Reconnect, Inc. (ARI) extends a very warm invitation to the entire South Florida community, and in fact, the entire world…” enthuses the organization’s President, Nigerian Andrew Osolase.
On Saturday, May 24, the Oak Grove Park, located at 690 NW 159 Street, North Miami will come to life showcasing the energy and wealth of Africa between the hours of 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. The community is invited to this spectacular event, and ARI expects a large number of vendors on the festival grounds, representing some of the best African Diaspora has to offer, and at least 2,000 festival attendees throughout the day.
This community event is designed to expose the South Florida Community to the cultures and customs of various groups representing the Continent of Africa and the Caribbean. AFRICA FEST 2008 is one of a series of events developed by Africa Reconnect Inc., to create linkages that will reconnect African Americans and people of the Caribbean with Africans in the Diaspora and the Continent of Africa.
Various African and Caribbean Associations, Organizations, and Businesses have pledged to become Partners, and to help in this family-fun-filled endeavor to educate our community about the cultures of their countries. Opportunities for sponsorship and vending are still available.
This annual event is produced in cooperation with Miami Dade County Park and Recreation Department and the Diaspora Arts Coalition, Inc.
