21st Annual Miami Reggae Festival to celebrate Jamaica’s Independence

Jamaica Awareness, Inc. will celebrate Jamaica’s 43rd independence anniversary with the staging of the 21st annual Miami Reggae Festival on Sunday, August 7, at Bayfront Park amphitheater, downtown Miami.

The festival will feature a mix of reggae pioneers, such as Veteran Rock Steady and Reggae singing sensations Alton Ellis, Ken Boothe, Culture, Tinga Stewart, Lloyd Parkes and We the People Band.

They will be joined by notable dancehall favorites Gyptian, Voicemail, Aisha Davis, Conrad Crystal and Sugar Roy. Local lovers’ rock crooner, Audley Rollens along with Causion, rising star Evette and 2 of a Kind will represent the Florida-based artists at this year’s event.

A special treat will be the performance of the winner of Jamaica’s “Popular Song Contest” which has emerged from the annual independence festival song competition. The winner will be crowned in Jamaica a few weeks before the independence anniversary.

Adding to the festivities will be the usual fare of Caribbean cuisine, jerk chicken, curry goat and Red Stripe Beer which will be sold along with various selections of arts and crafts booths all creating an island feel in the heart of Miami.

Advance tickets will be available at selected Caribbean outlets in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties, at a cost of $25.00. At the door, tickets will be $30 and children under 12 will be admitted free.
