11th Annual Caribbean Commercial Law Workshop to be held at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel

MIAMI BEACH – A team of distinguished academics and legal practitioners we have assembled to make presentations at the forthcoming Caribbean Commercial Law Workshop, to be held at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel in South Beach, Florida, on August 16th to 18th, 2009.

On the very first Panel: “Drafting the International Agreement: Jurisdiction and Choice of Law”, we have Professor Janet Walker of Osgoode Hall Law School, Toronto, Canada; Mr. Jeffrey Elkinson of Conyers Dill & Pearman of Bermuda; and Mr. Andrew Stephenson of Holland & Knight LLP, Washington, D.C. Our Senior Counsel, Dr. Trevor Carmichael, QC, of Chancery Chambers, Barbados, will serve as Moderator/Commentator.

On the second Panel: “Enforcement of Foreign Judgments and Arbitral Awards in Contractual Disputes”, are Professor Winston Anderson of the Faculty of Law, UWI; Mr. Frank Walwyn of WeirFoulds LLP, Toronto, Canada; and Mr. Dave Kissoon of Cozen O’Connor, New York. Mr. Mark Brantley of Daniel, Brantley & Associates, Nevis, will serve as Moderator/Commentator.

Then there is the Latin American Panel of Mr. Giancarlo Angelucci of LEXINCORP, El Salvador, and Mr. Gonzalo Biggs of Figueroa, Valenzuela y Cía, Santiago, Chile, to present on “Drafting the International Agreement and the Enforcement of Foreign Judgments: The Latin American Experience”. Professor Emeritus A. R. Carnegie will serve as Moderator/Commentator.

Finally, at the close of the first day, we have the fourth Panel: “The Impact of the Global Financial Crisis on the Offshore Financial Services Industry in the Caribbean”. Making presentations on this Panel are: Mr. Bruce Zagaris of Berliner Corcoran & Rowe LLP of Washington, DC; Ms. Renata Emery of Alberto de Orleans e Braganca of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Mr. David Spencer of Tax Justice Network, New York.

Then, on the morning of the second day, Mr. Peter Darrow of Mayer Brown LLP, New York, will present on “The Impact of the Global Crisis on the Financing of Major Projects in the Caribbean”. He will be followed by a Panel on “Infrastructure Renewal and Development in the Caribbean”, by Bradley McLellan and Daniel Ferguson of WeirFoulds LLP, Canada.
