100 BMOA: Help For Haiti- A Call To Action Message from the Chairman

WASHINGTON – Our hearts and prayers go out to our friends, the people of Haiti, after the devastating earthquake that claimed the lives of so many men, women and children. This is truly a human tragedy. Some of our 100 members have been directly affected by this magnitude-7.0 earthquake.

Haiti is a country that has been devastated by economical challenges and crippled by political woes for decades. Haiti lacks the infrastructure and resources needed to recover, rebuild and renew the lives of its people. Now Haiti calls on humanity to assist in one of the country’s darkest hours. The 100 Black Men of America, Inc. will answer.

Today, I am calling on the men of the 100 to supplement your prayers by giving a monetary donation to support the rescue, recovery and relief efforts. As leaders, we have an obligation to assist those in need and serve as an example to others. As members of the human race, we have a responsibility to help our brothers and sisters around the world, especially when our members are impacted.

As bodies and debris mount and hopelessness and despair abound, we, the men of the 100, can make a difference by donating to our partner American Red Cross or to Doctors Without Borders. Doctors Without Borders is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971 and a recipient of the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize. The first reports are now emerging from Doctors Without Borders teams who were already working on medical projects in Haiti. They are treating hundreds of people injured in the quake and have been setting up clinics in tents to replace their own damaged medical facilities.

For the American Red Cross, donate online at www.redcross.org, or to call in a donation for international relief, please mention the International Response Fund. If you wish to make a contribution to other American Red Cross initiatives, the 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-435-7669) agent will assist you further.

For Doctors Without Borders, donate online at www.doctorswithoutborders.org, or toll-free at 10in 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. USA Headquarters 333 7th Avenue, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001-5004.

If anyone should inquire of you how they might secure information on the status of U.S. citizens in Haiti, please have them contact the American Citizens Services at 888-407-4747.

Your donation will send a message of hope and faith that transcends race, creed, culture, religion and dialect. Act now. Donate today!
