St. Lucia’s Prime Minister to give talk on slave trade reparations at FIU

MIAMI – The Prime Minister of St. Lucia,  The Honorable Kenny Davis Anthony will address the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM’s) recent political stance on slave trade reparations at the 16th Annual Eric Williams Memorial Lecture at Florida International University. His lecture is titled “Reparations and 21st Century Development: The Silence is Broken and We Speak to the World.”

The 16th Annual Eric Williams Memorial Lecture is free and open to FIU students, FIU employees and the public and will be held on Fri., Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center – Florida International University Modesto A. Maidique Campus 11200 SW 8th Street,  Miami.

The Honorable Kenny Davis Anthony, Prime Minister of St. Lucia, earned a law degree from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. He has served as Prime Minister for 17 years and helpedform the Labor Government of St. Lucia in 1997. He is also the author of several legal articles, particularly pertaining to the Caribbean.

The Eric Williams Memorial Lecture: Established in 1999, the annual lecture series honors Eric Williams, a distinguished Caribbean statesman, consummate academic and historian, and author of several books. Williams led Trinidad and Tobago to independence from Britain in 1962 and onto republicanism in 1976. He was also the first Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago and Head of Government for 25 years until his death in 1981.
