Jamaica’s Minister of Industry, Investment to engage Diaspora with Logistic Hub
Washington DC – Jamaica’s Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Anthony Hylton says his ministry will be launching a campaign within the next six months to sensitize the Diaspora on the importance of the logistic hub and communicate how it can participate.
In an interview with Jamaica Information Service (JIS) shortly after participating in a panel discussion at the Global Services Summit, held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington DC on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, Minister Hylton said that engagement with the Diaspora is geared towards having members participate in this important Jamaican project by investing and providing services.
“There is a wide range of opportunities available and the Diaspora has a key role to play. We want to have the Diaspora focus on these areas so member can take full advantage of the various opportunities that exist”, the Minister said.
Minister Hylton disclosed that discussions will be held in Canada, London as well as key states throughout the US with various stakeholders like academia, large and small business Operators and the ordinary Jamaican. He pointed out that the overseas mission will play a pivotal role in the organization of the various meetings.
The Minister said that the launch of the online Mapping Jamaica Diaspora Project by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade will play a key role in the staging of the various meetings. The survey he said, aims to capture the locations, interests and skills of Jamaicans as the country seeks to establish a database to support the government’ s policy directions and interests with members of the Diaspora.
