BROWARD COUNTY – On Sunday, June 28th, the local social media community gathered at the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six Resort and Spa for a daylong Mashable Social Media Day South Florida Conference.  Now celebrating its fifth consecutive year in South Florida, event organizers chose to hold this year’s conference in Broward County with Commissioner Holness presenting a proclamation at a reception at The Pier Top, located on the top floor of the Resort’s 17 story-tower, where attendees were able to take in the 360 degree panoramic view of the Broward County skyline.

With more than 20 speakers, including Adam Boalt, CEO, LiveAnswer, Inc. and Alex de Carvalho, Knight Innovator in Residence now serving at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Florida International University, and 25 additional tracks to choose from, attendees were able to learn about blogging, podcasting, social neuromarketing, social video, and received tips on using popular social media platforms Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.

“Social media has forever changed the way we communicate.  With the creation of Facebook, Twitter, and the like, the world has seen positive social changes and movements created with just a hashtag.  Social media will play a major role in the Florida International Trade & Cultural Expo (FITCE) I have spearheaded for October 12-16, 2015.  We plan to have live webcasts and use different social media platforms to share real time information with people across the globe, and that could not be possible without social media,” said Holness.

Launched in 2010 as a way to recognize and celebrate social media’s impact on global communication, June 30, 2015 marks the sixth annual official global celebration of Social Media Day. With events scheduled in many U.S. cities including Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, San Diego, New York, and internationally in Egypt and Spain, the hashtag #SMDay (Social Media Day) will connect users online to share in planned celebrations for the day.
