Youth Economic Development Conference & Expo Set For July 13-15

URGENT, Inc. to Host 3rd Annual Florida Youth Economic Development Conference & Expo at Miami-Dade College North Campus 

MIAMI – Urgent, Inc. will host its 3rd Annual Florida Youth Economic Development Conference & Expo, on July 13-15, 2016 at Miami Dade College North Campus, 11380 NW 27th Ave, Miami, FL 33167.

The three-day conference and expo will bring together over 300 youth leaders from across the state to offer empowering resources for personal and professional development through a series of interactive and educational workshops for youth ages 14-24.

Conference sessions will focus on industries like Technology, Creative Design, Entertainment, Film, Radio, and Hospitality. And on the final day, Friday July 15th, Urgent’s Youth 4 Social Change Film Festival will be held at the Miami Dade Library located at 101 W. Flagler St. The conference is free for youth ages 14-24.

Parents and group leaders can register for $25 a day. Teens, parents and groups can visit www.urgentincconference.com to register.

Featured speakers include Florida State Senator Dwight Bullard who will be bringing greetings on behalf of the State of Florida.

To keynote this year is youth entrepreneur Jaylen Bledsoe of St. Louis, MO who is set to motivate and inspire his peers to “Don’t let your setback cause you to sit back, prepare for your comeback!”

Other speakers include; Taj Hunter Waite-Interior Design and Owner of All Things Taj, Tashah Johnson-Owner, Candleessentials and Lowell Gelin- Automotive Diagnostics Specialist and Owner of On Call Mechanics.

There will also be a panel discussion of young Miami entrepreneurs including Zoe Terry of Zoe’s Dolls; Elijah Wells of Elijah Wells Films; Shonee Alicia Rudolph of Lemon Licks’; 8 and 9-year old Sebastian and Brandon Martinez of Are You Kidding; and Saliha Crespo of Sally Film Life Talent Agency.

Other conference/expo highlights include a Youth Town Hall Meeting focused on education, Youth-Led Arts and Entrepreneurship Expos, breakout sessions with industry professionals, Youth Business Marketplace and two competitions concluding on Day 2.

Young inventors and entrepreneurs will pitch their ideas at the Design Challenge Competition sponsored by Citi and the Business Plan Competition sponsored by Urban Philanthropies.

The conference will end Friday July 15th, with Urgent’s 1st Youth 4 Social Change Film Festival located at the Miami Dade Library 101 W. Flagler St.

Urgent will screen it’s latest youth short film, “Hidden,” which explores the issue of human trafficking from a teen point of view and showcase a series of 5-minute short films from youth filmmakers around the state competing for, “Best of Show.”

Two sessions will be held from 10:00am-12noon and 1:00pm-3:00pm.

The conference would not be possible without the support of the impact sponsor, Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency and City of Miami Commissioner and Chair Keon Hardemon of District 5, and headline sponsors Citi, The Children’s Trust, Allegany Franciscan Ministries and Miami Dade County, Dept. of Cultural Affairs.
