VMBS Hosts 2rd Annual Community Fora in Florida Jamaica’s Strategic Crime Management Initiatives among Topics to be Discussed

SOUTH FLORIDA – Jamaica’s recent celebrations of the nation’s 50th anniversary highlighted various accomplishments, as well as the need for a sustained thrust towards even greater achievements in the future, aimed at a shared vision for a better Jamaica…The Place of Choice to live, work, raise your families and do business by 2030. It is against this backdrop, that the Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS) – Florida Representative Office will be hosting its second annual Community Fora, under the theme: Our Journey…Jamaica’s Next 50!

The event will feature key speakers including the main address by the Honourable Peter Bunting, Jamaica’s Minister of National Security; Mr Leary Mullings, Senior Partner, Crichton Mullings & Associates, as well as Victoria Mutual’s own Mr. Allan Lewis, Senior Vice-President, Group Strategy.

The Community Fora will focus on issues relating to Jamaica’s growth and development, with an emphasis on crime and its impact, as well as the up-coming Financial Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) & the IRS Reporting Standards, as at January 2013.

Jamaica’s Minister of National Security, the Honourable Peter Bunting, M.P., will lead talks on ‘Jamaica’s Strategic Crime Management Initiatives’, while Mr Leary Mullings – Partner, Crichton Mullings & Associates will focus on ‘Understanding FATCA and the IRS Reporting Standards for Jamaica’. Mr. Allan Lewis, Senior Vice-President, Group Strategy, VMBS said ‘at Victoria Mutual, we see the financial security of our Members and Customers as our primary focus and our strategic thrust is to ensure that our Members and Customers are satisfied about our services and product offerings.

Mr. Lewis further stated that the desire to be financially secure is timeless and universal and since inception over 133 years ago Victoria Mutual has demonstrated that being a Member of the VMBS family, improves one’s ability to achieve financial independence.

According to Suzette Rochester, Manager, Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS) – Florida Representative Office “Jamaicans in overseas communities still have a vested interest in the country, as was highlighted by the recent London Olympics and the fervour with which we undertook our Jamaica 50 celebrations. As this forum has done in the past, it will bring together a cross-section of viewpoints, in a setting tailored to facilitate the effective exchange of ideas and information, and establishing relevant goals and action plans.

We encourage everyone in the community to attend and participate, as we all have a shared vision for a better Jamaica, which can only be realized through linkages between government, corporate entities as well as our citizens.” Rochester also articulated that the Representative Office is located at 21461 NW 2nd Avenue, Miami Gardens and operates with a mandate to promote the Society’s savings and mortgage investments to those members of the Diaspora wishing to create or increase their financial well-being.
