WASHINGTON, DC – The United States Embassy continues to assist Bahamian law enforcement agencies with training and funding in the fight against illegal drug trafficking.
The Embassy’s Narcotics Affairs Section (NAS) recently provided a member of the Royal Bahamas Police Force with a new drug-sniffing dog and the opportunity to participate in a Narcotics Detection and Tracking Training course in the United States.
RBPF Constable Garth McIntosh traveled to Mechanicsburg, PA and received four weeks of training with the RBPFs new drug-sniffing dog Vori. Vori is an eight month old, sixty-five pound male Belgian Malinois that was donated to the RBPF by the Embassy at a cost of $7,500.
The Embassy provided another $3,000 for Constable McIntosh’s training program. Both dog and Constable are presently stationed at the Grand Bahama International Airport.
During a recent visit to Grand Bahama, U.S. Ambassador John Rood met with Constable McIntosh, commended him for his dedication, and encouraged him to continue to utilize their recent training to keep drugs off of the streets.
The training provided to Constable McIntosh and his drug-sniffing companion reflects the continuing closeness of the ongoing partnership between The Bahamas and the United States to combat illegal narcotics trafficking.
