US Airways Begins Caribbean and Latin American Operations from Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport
ARLINGTON, Va., Feb. 14, 2005 — US Airways today officially launched its new expanded operations at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, bringing a new, convenient and low-fare travel option for travelers in South Florida, nearly a dozen East Coast cities, and nine Caribbean and Latin American destinations.
“Our Caribbean and Latin America expansion has been quite successful, and the development of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport gateway is a natural extension of our plans to increase our presence in the region,” said Douglas D. Leo, US Airways vice president of sales, distribution and international. “We thank the Broward County Aviation Department, the Broward Board of County Commissioners, the Transportation Security Administration and Customs and Border Protection for their efforts in making this expansion a success.”
In the Caribbean and Latin America, nonstop Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood service to Guatemala City, Guatemala and San José, Costa Rica began yesterday, with additional destinations to debut later this month. Kingston, Jamaica service begins Feb. 19; San Salvador, El Salvador, flights start on Feb. 16; and Panama City, Panama, flights begin Feb. 22. Service to Cancun, which began in October 2004 as Saturday-only service, increased to daily service on Feb. 12. Nonstop service to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and San Juan, Puerto Rico, began on Feb. 6, 2005, and nonstop codeshare service on Bahamasair to Nassau is also in place.

GoFares are available from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood to Cancun, Guatemala City, Kingston, Panama City, San José, San Juan, San Salvador, and Santo Domingo.
In the U.S., US Airways has linked Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood with nonstop service from Boston, Newark, and Key West and Orlando, Fla. Saturday flights from Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) and Hartford, Conn., to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, which began in November 2004, have increased to daily service this month. Nonstop daily New York (LaGuardia) service also began in November. Combined with pre-existing US Airways nonstop service to Ronald Reagan Washington National, Charlotte, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, a total of 11 points in the U.S. are conveniently connected to the Caribbean and Latin America via Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood. All of these markets are GoFares markets, offering customers US Airways’ low, simplified pricing structure.
