U.S. Political speaker to explore what a President Obama will mean for the U.S. and the world

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Professor David Lublin from the Department of Government, School of Public Affairs at the American University in Washington D.C. will be in Jamaica on December 1 and 2, 2008.

While in Jamaica, Professor Lublin will be speaking on post – U.S. election issues, including the incoming Obama administration’s possible foreign policy priorities and how his domestic policies may impact the Latin American and Caribbean region in the area of trade, among other issues. He will also address what the election of President-elect Obama will mean for the U.S., the region, and the world. The professor will also provide an analysis of how Americans voted in this past election.

On Monday, December 1, Professor Lublin will give a lecture to students at the Northern Caribbean University. On Monday, December 1, he will participate in a public forum to be held at the Knutsford Court Hotel. Other panelist for the public forum will be Don Anderson, Political Pollster/Analyst; Dr. John Rapley, Chair, Caribbean Policy Research Institute; Barbara Gloudon, Broadcaster/Radio Talk Show Host, and Lloyd B. Smith, Political Analyst/Editor, Western Mirror newspaper.

The Harvard-educated professor is also the author of the books, The Republican South: Democratization and Partisan Change, (Princeton University Press 2004) and, The Paradox of Representation: Racial Gerrymandering and Minority Interests in Congress (Princeton University Press 1997). He has also written several articles and chapters on topics such as re-districting and minority voting, in such journals as the University of California/Berkeley Public Policy Press, the Election Law Journal, Political Science and Politics and the Journal of Politics, among others. He has also written a number of articles for the Washington Post and other newspapers as well as numerous posts to two political blogs.

Professor Lublin has a Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University (1994); an A.M. in Government from Harvard University (1992); and a B.A. in Political Science from Yale University (1990), Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Distinction in Political Science.

Professor Lublin has served as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and now Professor in the School of Public Affairs at the Department of Government, American University, from 1998 to the present. Prior to that, he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Government and International Studies at the University of South Carolina from 1994-98.
