KINGSTON, Jamaica – The American Citizens Services (ACS) unit of the U.S. Embassy is urging all American citizens resident in Jamaica to register to vote in the November 4 U.S. presidential and congressional elections. Those already registered to vote are encouraged to request absentee ballots from their home state quickly in order to receive them in time to vote.
ACS personnel in the embassy’s Consular Section and in the Consular Agencies in Montego Bay and the Cayman Islands are available to help American citizens fill out the simple Federal Post Card Application to register to vote in the upcoming elections and/or request an absentee ballot. The staff will also send applications to the proper county’s election office via diplomatic pouch, at no cost to the applicant.
In addition to the election of a new president, every seat in the U.S. House of Representatives and one-third of the seats in the U.S. Senate are being contested. Overseas American citizens are eligible to participate in primary, run-off, and special elections that occur throughout the year, as well as the general elections in November.
The U.S. Embassy in Kingston is located at 142 Old Hope Road. The American Citizens Services section is open to the public from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. The U.S. Consular Agency in Montego Bay is at St. James Place, Second Floor, Gloucester Avenue and is open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The U.S. Consular Agency in the Cayman Islands is at Unit 222, Micro Center, North Sound Road, George Town, Grand Cayman, and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Overseas absentee voters can obtain additional information and fill out the federal ballot request form through the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) website at www.fvap.gov.
