“This is just the beginning of great things to come” says Jamaica Sports Minister

KINGSTON, Jamaica – (JIS) “This is just the beginning of great things to come,” Jamaica’s Minister of Information, Culture Youth and Sports said of Usain Bolt’s spectacular world record run of 9.72 seconds at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York at the Icahn Stadium yesterday.

I know that they (the athletes) will grow from strength to strength and do great things in Beijing” Minister Grange said.

In lauding the performance of the 21 year old new world record champion Miss Grange said she was overwhelmed and overjoyed at Usain’s performance and that it showed how with hard work, dedication and the right attitude, the sky is the limit for Jamaicans.

Miss Grange said she was proud of all members of the team and that they all outdid themselves. The Minister also singled out the performance of Veronica Campbell who posted a world leading 10.91 seconds over the 100 metres so far this year.

The Sports Minister said the high expectations the Jamaican people had of Usain, Veronica and all the other athletes was well founded and that she was very pleased with the support from those Jamaicans who came out in their numbers to the meet to cheer on the exceptional performance of the athletes.

Miss Grange wished all the athletes well and said Jamaicans at home and those in the Diaspora would now be looking forward to the Olympics in Beijing with great expectations.
