The “Jamaica Healthcare 2030 Vision Forum” to be held in the US, Nov 4-6

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The “Jamaica Healthcare 2030 Vision Forum” will be held November 4-6, 2010 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The goal of the forum is to develop a framework for engaging the Jamaican Diaspora and Friends of Jamaica in the strategic plan of the Ministry of Health and other medical, healthcare and dental academic institutions and associations in Jamaica.

Over 200 Medical, dental and other healthcare professionals from the Jamaican Diaspora and Friends of Jamaica are invited to participate in the forum and to help develop a five year plan to integrate their outreach efforts in Jamaica as part of the strategic plan of the Ministry of Health to improve the healthcare delivery system in Jamaica.

The forum is hosted under the distinguished patronage of Hon. Geneive Brown Metzger, Consul General of Jamaica, New York and Hon. Sandra Grant Griffiths, Consul General of Jamaica, Miami in association with the Jamaican Diaspora Advisory Board, the Jamaican Diaspora Institute, the Jamaican Diaspora Foundation, the Ministry of Health and the University of the West Indies Faculty of Medical Sciences. The Organization for International Development (OID), New York, The Jamaica Nurses Group of New York Inc. and the Organization for Strategic Development in Jamaica (OSDJ), Minnesota will play the lead role in coordinating the forum.

The Organization for International Development, led by Dr. Roy Streete has been doing outreach in Jamaica for over 20 years. OSDJ began the Advancements in Medicine Conference in 2007 and was instrumental in having the formal agreement signed between Hennepin Country Medical Center and the University of the West Indies Faculty of Medical Science. We hope to have a similar agreement signed with the Ministry of Health as part of the Advancements in Medicine 2011 conference scheduled for February 20-26, 2011.

Developing a framework for integrating the efforts of these and other organizations and institutions into the strategic plans of the Ministry of Health will strengthen the process for improving the healthcare delivery system in Jamaica.

For more information on the conference please contact, Wayland Richards, at 763-503-0869 or Dr. Roy Streete at 718-652-3978.
