Thanksgiving Week Travel Tips At MIA

MIAMI – From Monday, November 23, to Monday, November 30, more than 753,000 passengers are projected to travel through Miami International Airport (MIA) for the Thanksgiving travel week. Although passengers are projected to decrease 2.53 percent this week compared to last year, many holiday passengers may be infrequent travelers who are less familiar with MIA. Therefore, the Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) offers these Thanksgiving week travel tips:

· Departing passengers are encouraged to arrive at MIA two hours prior to a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight to allow sufficient time for parking, locating and walking to their airline check-in area, and screening at the Transportation Security Administration checkpoints.

· There will be ample parking at MIA as a result of the airport’s expansion program. Valet parking is available in the Dolphin long-term garage on the departures (second) level.

· MIA also provides an economy park-and-ride parking lot at N.W. 45th Avenue between N.W. 13th And 15th Street, accessible from LeJeune or Perimeter Road and less than a mile away from the Terminal. The lot contains 600 spaces at a discounted flat rate of $8 per day, and shuttle bus service to the Terminal is provided every 15 minutes.

· American Airlines has relocated to a new ticketing and check-in area within MIA’s North Terminal. Follow the signs directing you to the new check-in area.

· MIA’s cell phone lot is conveniently located on the west side of LeJeune Road (42nd Avenue) at N.W. 31st Street, just north of the entrance to the airport. Sixty spaces are available for patrons in not-for-hire vehicles to park until their party is ready to be picked up.

· There will be increased security this holiday week. Unattended vehicles at curbside areas may be ticketed or towed and curbside parking is available only for vehicles that are actively dropping off or picking up passengers. After picking up or dropping off their party, drivers should move along in a timely fashion to avoid unnecessary congestion or receiving a parking citation.
