Superstar Comedian Guy Torry To Headline Broward Black Elected Officials Gala

HOLLYWOOD – Superstar comedian Guy Torry will give a special performance at the Broward Black Elected Officials’ sixth annual Black History Month Gala, which will be held 5 p.m., Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Hard Rock Live, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood.

“The 2011 Gala: Sustaining The Dream,” is presented by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Platinum sponsors are FPL and Harvey, Covington & Thomas. Other sponsors include Waste Management, PBS&J, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, Florida Memorial University, Becker & Poliakoff and Bank of America.

With a comedy performance as a first for the much anticipated gala, the BBEO event promises to a memorable finale to the month-long spate of Black History Month events in South Florida.

Guy Torry, brother to comedian Joe Torry, soared to fame a decade ago as host of the touring “The Kings of Comedy” show. Since then he has starred in such films as “Slow Burn,” “Stuck on You,” “American History X,” “Runaway Jury” and “The Last Stand.” He has appeared on or hosted numerous television shows.

Guy Torry is known for his hilarious rants on modern day life from non-existent “customer service” to the rage for blogging. He is currently on a national stand-up comedy tour.

The Broward Black Elected Officials are a 501©3 organization that supports education through scholarship awards, direct grants to the UNCF and historically black colleges. The organization also presents community outreach programs.

Since its inception, the BBEO has donated nearly $75,000 in educational funds. The gala is its largest fund-raiser and over the years has honored such celebrities as Patti LaBelle,
Dionne Warwick, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Judge Glenda Hatchett and Dr. Bobby Jones as well as South Florida political, corporate and community leaders.

The gala has been produced since 2007 by Roy H. Campbell, a South Florida special events producer who has created events with such renown celebrities as Oprah Winfrey, Tyra Banks, Patti LaBelle and Will Smith.
