St. Thomas University School of Law to host a Delegation of
the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights 

MIAMI – St. Thomas University School of Law will host a delegation of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). IACHR Chair Rose-Marie Belle Antoine will begin her three-state investigation into the situation of racial discrimination and the issue of police violence against persons of African descent with a Community Forum in Miami Gardens.

The IACHR protects and promotes human rights in the thirty-five state-members of the Organization of American States (OAS), and Commissioner Antoine invites community members to testify regarding human rights abuses occurring in South Florida in terms of policing, housing, health, education, wage theft, and more.

Inter-American Commission on Human Rights Chair is Rose-Marie Belle Antoine. Rose-Marie is a dual citizen of Saint Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago, Commissioner Antoine was elected to the IACHR at the 41st OAS General Assembly in June 2011. Her term began on January 1, 2012.

Rose-Marie was elected First Vice-Chair, from March 2014 to March 2015, and Chair in March 2015. Lawyer, professor and dean of the University of the West Indies, she specializes in human rights, financial law, comparative law, administrative law, public service law, discrimination law and labor law.

An award-winning author who has written eleven books, numerous reports, articles, and draft laws, she has consulted with numerous governments and international and regional organizations as a senior legal advisor.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights Community Forum will be held  in the Moot Courtroom, St. Thomas University School of Law (16401 NW 37th Avenue. Miami Gardens) on Monday, September 21, 2015 from 2:30pm – 4:30pm.
