This new service will support Spirit’s Caribbean expansion as well as its position as the leading low cost carrier to the Caribbean. By the end of 2005, 24% of Spirit’s service will be in the Caribbean and the Bahamas.
“We are delighted to add service to St. Thomas, in the US Virgin Islands, as an important element of our expansion in the Caribbean,” said Barry Biffle, Chief Marketing Officer of Spirit Airlines. “St. Thomas, America’s Caribbean, is an ideal addition to our growing route map and we are confident that our new service will help grow the local economy by increasing tourism.”
“We are very excited about the start of Spirit Airlines’ new seven-day service from Fort Lauderdale (one of the nation’s fastest growing gateways) to St. Thomas,” stated U.S. Virgin Islands Commissioner of Tourism Pamela C. Richards. “These additional new flights will provide travelers with even more convenient options when visiting the U.S. Virgin Islands from the U.S. and abroad, and they will launch just in time for the busy winter season.”
