South Florida Community Fatherhood Initiative: Fathers Step up! Discover what resources are here for you!
FT. LAUDERDALE – Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Broward County, Inc. (HMHB of Broward) is launching a Community Fatherhood Initiative to create a comprehensive coalition of resources for fathers and families primarily throughout the black community.
The Community Fatherhood Initiative is a joint effort with key agencies to build community collaboration, address the fragmentation of existing fatherhood programs and develop a program based on these issues to fill the gaps in service.
The program aims to encourage father involvement beginning at conception and throughout the entire life of the child.
The Community Fatherhood Initiative will link existing community-based systems to connect fathers with services in order to strengthen families.
A task force led by HMHB of Broward with collaboration from community organizations including the Urban League of Broward County, 100 Black Men of Ft. Lauderdale, the Broward County School Board, Broward Regional Health Planning Council, Broward Healthy Start as well as many local churches will meet monthly to analyze existing programs and address gaps in services.
The first Town Hall meeting will take place on December 9, 2008 from 10:30am-12:30pm at The African-American Research Library and Cultural Center located at 2650 Sistrunk Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.
Additional community organizations who have fatherhood programs or those who would like to become involved are encouraged to participate by contacting Cynthia Holmes at (954) 765-0550 ext. 320 or [email protected].
