South Florida Caribbean Diaspora raises additional funds for victims of 2004 hurricanes

Hi-Class Promotions raised nearly $4,000, from listeners on WAVS-1170 AM, for victims of Jamaica, Haiti and Grenada. On Wednesday, May 4, Jamaica’s Consul General Ricardo Allicock and Haiti’s Consul General Ralph Latortue were presented with checks on behalf of the three countries. Both men echoed sentiments of appreciation for the commitment and support extended by the South Florida community.

Making the presentation to Consul General Ricardo Allicock and Consul General Ralph Latortue were Winsome Charlton and Anthony Blair of Hi Class Promotions, and Joan Ball, Manager of Bank Atlantic, Lauderhill.

This project was initiated by radio broadcaster and Jamaican national, Denver Silvera, aka “Jamusa,” and endorsed by other broadcasters at WAVS-AM following the devastation by the hurricanes last season.

Don Daly of CRI Communications, through his weekly radio program on WVCG-1080 AM in Miami, raised almost $8,000 which was distributed to victims of Jamaica and Grenada.

Food for the Poor, Missionaries for the Poor, Inner City for Christ Ministries and the Office for National Reconstruction raised over $6,000 which was used to assist the victims in Jamaica, and an additional $1,500 for victims in Grenada.
