Soccer Rivals clash at the 5th Annual Dennis Ziadie Cup Football Match: St. Georges vs Jamaica College

LAUDERHILL – The Alumni teams of the past 2 Jamaica Manning Cup winners clash at the 5th Annual soccer match for the Dennis Ziadie Cup. The Jamaica College Old Boys Association of Florida and the St. George’s College Old Boys Association of Florida will meet at 2:00 pm on Saturday April 18th, 2009 at the Central Broward Regional Park, in Lauderhill.

Last year’s match drew over 800 spectators and supporters of both schools. The annual match is in memory of Dennis Ziadie, who coached both schools to Manning Cup victories.

This year will mark the 23rd year of the death of Dennis Ziadie in a car crash in Mexico at the 1986 World Cup.

“Dennis Ziade has been an inspiration to me. As a member of Jamaica College’s Manning Cup teams 1970 through 1973, I experienced the great wisdom and vision of Dennis as a coach”, said Jamaica College Old Boys Association of Florida President, Ray E. G. Stephenson . “It brings me great joy each year to see this event grow and I am proud that we continue to pay tribute to this great man.”

Saturday’s festivities will also feature a game between Calabar and Cornwall College.

This year’s soccer match is a part of the Jamaica College Old Boys Association “True Blue” weekend festivities which includes a True Blue party on April 17th, 2009 and a True Blue church service on April 19th, 2009.
