Saint Lucia Development Bank commended for filling a void

ST. LUCIA – The Saint Lucia Development Bank will kick off the observance of its first anniversary in earnest on February 25. The programme of activities will include several highlights including lecture presentations by well known experts in the fields of development, finance and banking.

Among the lists of lecture presenters are Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, Sir Dwight Venner, President of the Caribbean Development Bank Dr. Compton Bourne, and former director of the Saint Lucia Development Bank, Mr. George Theophilus.

Managing Director of the Saint Lucia Development Bank, Mr. Jean Francois Sonson says an analysis after the first year in operation, has given the bank the conviction that it has indeed filled a void in the island’s development.

“We have been overwhelmed because during the first year of our operation we have had over 1,500 people come to the bank for one thing or another. We have had enquires to the value of $EC125 million which far exceeds the capital base of the bank. We have approved to date over 150 loans valued at nearly 15 million dollars.”

The week of activities will culminate with a staff appreciation dinner said Mr. Sonson as he heaped praise on the employees of the bank, for their hard work and dedication.
