Reggae superstar Buju Banton released from jail
TAMPA – Reggae Superstar, Mark Myrie aka Buju Banton was released from the Pinellas County Jail on bail on Wednesday, November 10. Buju was arrested in December 2009 on alleged drug trafficking charges.
On September 27 a federal judge declared a mistrial after jurors were deadlock on a verdict.
Conditions of Buju’s release includes, paying a private security detail to guard him 24 hours a day, signing an extradition waiver, ensuring his return if he does flee the US, wearing an electronic monitoring device and posting a $300,000 bond. The bond was posted by his friend, Stephen Marley (Bob Marley’s son).
Buju is headed to his home in South Florida. “We’re thrilled that Buju will have some time to regroup before we try this case again,” defense attorney David Oscar Markus said.
Banton is scheduled to be tried again in February.
