Prime Minister of Jamaica to be the Guest of Honor at 50th Independence Gala
New York, NY – The Jamaican Independence Celebration Foundation Inc. and the Consulate General of Jamaica co-organizers of the 50th Independence Gala have announced that The Rt. Hon. Portia Simpson-Miller, Prime Minister of Jamaica will be the guest of honor at the officially mandated Jamaica 50 celebratory event.
“We are honored that The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister will join fellow Jamaicans and well-wishers to celebrate this historic milestone in New York,” said Paulette Willoughby, chair of The Jamaican Independence Celebration Foundation. “This golden anniversary of independence is not only a moment to join together to look back on our journey and accomplishments, but to support our forward momentum as a people for the next fifty years.”

The 50th Independence Gala to be held on August 18, 2012 at the New York Hilton & Towers will begin with cocktails at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 8:00 p.m. Guests will dance the night away to the pulsating tunes of Jamaica’s pre-eminent reggae band Fab 5, who will be performing their record breaking hits until 3:00 a.m.
