Plans Unveiled For S. Florida Bahamas Independence Celebrations

“Grand Bahama Youth Chorale” Featured Event for S. FL Bahamas Independence Celebrations

SOUTH FLORIDA – The Grand Bahama Youth Chorale, will be the featured performers at a special 2015 Bahamas Independence Celebration Concert, July 16th at the Lehman Theatre, Miami Dade College, North Campus.  The Bahamas Consulate General, Florida, is hosting the event.

The Concert is expected to be a highlight of the South Florida celebrations of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas 42nd Anniversary of Independence.   Guests in attendance will include members of Florida’s Consular Corps as well as South Florida’s key influencers in the political and business arenas with Bahamians and friends of The Bahamas from all walks of life.

Deputy Consul General for The islands Of The Bahamas, Sandra Carey, is once again spearheading the committee of Bahamian leaders in the South Florida area who are organizing local events in celebration of the country’s July 10th, anniversary of Independence.  The group includes a selection of Florida based staff members of the Consulate, The Bahamas Tourist Office, and Bahamasair, along with local Bahamian leaders of churches, businesses and organizations in South Florida.

The Bahamas Independence Anniversary is during the month of July, however, Bahamians based in South Florida will get to jump start the celebrations, jumping to the music of Junkanoo on weekends in the month of June.  Each Friday night in June, a Junkanoo band is set to perform at a local Bahamian Restaurant providing S. Florida Bahamians an opportunity to enjoy multiple facets of their culture, in the food, the music and art.

Once again, the National Association of Bahamians (NAB) will host their Annual Scholarship Fundraising Ball as a part of the celebratory events.  This year’s black tie event will take place on August 1st at the Miami Springs Country Club.

The Bahamas Independence committee spearheaded by Bahamas Deputy Consul General Sandra Carey, is comprised of a selection of staff members of The Bahamas Consulate, The Bahamas Tourist Office, Bahamasair and local Bahamians in the South Florida community representing the leadership of churches, businesses and organizations.
